  • Tomahawk Robotics, a Melbourne, FL-based startup bringing advanced robotic control systems to enterprise markets, raised $2.4m in seed funding

  • GenEdit, Inc., a Berkeley, CA-based developer of novel polymer nanoparticle technology platform for non-viral-based delivery of gene therapeutics, completed an $8.5m seed financing

  • WhyHotel, a Washington, D.C.-based alternative lodging service that operates pop-up hotels in newly built, luxury apartment buildings, secured $10M in Series A funding

Great example in the news is that LifeAID raised private equity for growth this week.  The Mercury News report at the 1st of year the following, “A 3-year-old Santa Cruz beverage company, LifeAID, is profitable, ramping up to ship 1 million cans a month, supplying customers in a dozen countries and needing more space in the Wrigley building on the Westside.”  This is a prime example of what type of company gets funded and we can fast track your process.

• 3PL Central, a Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based provider of third party logistics and warehouse management software, has acquired Traker Systems, a provider of cloud-based inventory control software. No financial terms were disclosed. 3PL Central is a portfolio company of Mainsail Partners.

• Bain Capital and Goldman Sachs have agreed to acquire a majority stake inCarver Korea, a South Korean cosmetics company. No financial terms were disclosed, except that Carver is on a $130 million revenue run rate. This represents Bain Capital’s first-ever investment in Korea.

• Clayton, Dubilier & Rice has completed its previously-announced acquisition of Tranzact, a Fort Lee, N.J.-based provider of direct-to-consumer sales and marketing solutions for U.S. insurance carriers, from shareholders like White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd. (NYSE: WTM). No financial terms were disclosed, although earlier news reports said that Tranzact generates around $50 million in annual EBITDA. Evercore managed the process.

• Clubessential LLC, a Cincinnati-based provider of software for golf and yacht clubs, has raised an undisclosed amount of growth equity funding from Battery Ventures.

Thoma Bravo

• Deltek, a Herndon, Va.-based portfolio company of Thoma Bravo, has acquired Union Square Software, a UK-based provider of project information and collaboration software for the architecture, engineering and construction markets. No financial terms were disclosed.

• First Reserve has agreed to acquire Morrison Utility Services, a British utility infrastructure company, from Bregal Capital and Motion Equity Partners. No financial terms were disclosed, except that Morrison generates over £600 million in annual revenue.

• Genesys, a French provider of omnichannel customer experience and contact center solutions, has raised around $900 million in equity funding from Hellman & Friedman at a $3.8 billion valuation.

• LifeAID Beverage Co., a Santa Cruz, Calif.-based manufacturer of “premium nutritional products for active lifestyles,” has raised an undisclosed amount of private equity funding from KarpReilly LLC.

• Marlin Equity Partners has acquired Revenew Inc., a provider of through-channel and distributed marketing solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. Revenew with the marketing applications business from Teradata Corp. (NYSE: TDC), and call the combined company Aprimo.

• Vantage Specialty Chemicals Inc., a Chicago-based portfolio company of The Jordan Co., has agreed to acquire Mallet and Company, a Pittsburgh-based provider of baking release agents. No financial terms were disclosed.

The Blackstone Group and GIC each are nearing deals to acquire 30% stakes in UK pension insurer Rothesay Life from Goldman Sachs, according to the FT. Mass Mutual would acquire an additional 6% position. The deals would value Rothesay Life at approximately £900

Bregal Partners has acquired US Community Behavioral, a provider of community-based residential and behavioral services to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the western United States. No financial terms were

Cave Creek Capital Management has led an acquisition of QK Holdings LLC, the largest Denny’s franchisee in the United States. No financial terms were disclosed. Co-investors include Stewart Capital and Seacoast Capital. Senior lenders were GE Capital, National Bank of Arizona and Alliance Bank of Arizona.

Centerbridge Partners has acquired a minority equity stake in Syncreon Holdings Ltd., an Auburn Hills, Mich.–based provider of customized supply chain services. No financial terms were disclosed. Existing shareholders like GenNx360 Capital Partners will retain equity ownership positions.

First Reserve has agreed to acquire Utility Services Associates, a provider of maintenance, repair, rebuild and construction services for power transmission and distribution infrastructure in the Eastern U.S. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal, though which company management will retain an equity interest.

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. has agreed to acquire Mitchell International, a San Diego-based provider of claims technology and software solutions, from Aurora Capital Group. No financialterms were disclosed, although Reuters reports an enterprise value of approximately $1.1

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. is in pole position to gain preferential negotiating rights in the auction for Panasonic Corp.‘s healthcare unit, according to Reuters. The deal could be worth $1.5 billion, with other bidders including Toshiba Corp. and a consortium of Bain Capital, Mitsui & Co. and the Development Bank of Japan.

Navis Capital has acquired Guardian Early Learning Group, an Australian child-care center operator, according to the WSJ. The deal reportedly was worth around A$120

OnCourse Learning, a portfolio company of The Riverside Company, has acquired BankersEdge, a Norristown, Penn.-based provider of regulatory, employment, and leadership training. No financial terms were disclosed.

TDR Capital has agreed to acquire UK health club chain David Lloyd Leisure. No financial termswere disclosed, but Reuters reports a sale price north of £700 million.

Applied Proteomics, a La Jolla, Calif.-based developer of a biomarker for colon cancer., has raised $28 million in Series C funding. Genting Berhad (Malaysia) led the round, and was joined by return backers Domain Associates and Vulcan Capital.

Cloud Technology Partners, a Boston-based provider of cloud-based enterprise transformation solutions, has raised $5 million in Series B funding led by Oak Investment

Collegefeed, a crowdsourced social career marketplace for college students, has raised $1.8 million in a VC funding round led by Accel

Green Mountain Digital, maker of the Yonder photo/video sharing app focused on outdoor recreation, a Woodstock, Vt.-based, has raised $3.8 million in Series B funding from Monster Worldwide (NYSE: MWW), the Vermont Seed Capital fund and individual angels.

Infraredx Inc.
, a Burlington, Mass.-based developer of medical devices for the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, has raised $25 million in equity funding from existing strategic partner Nipro Corp. (Tokyo: 8086). The company previously raised more than $150 million from investors like Sanderling Ventures.

Maginatics, a Mountain View, Calif.-based provider of storage solutions for distributed enterprises, has raised $17 million in Series B funding. Intel Capital led the round, and was joined by WestSummit Capital, Comcast Ventures and return backers Atlantic Bridge and VMware.

MicuRx Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Hayward, Calif.-based developer of antibiotics to combat infections due to resistant bacteria, has raised $25 million in Series B funding. BVCF led the round, and was joined by return backers Morningside Group and Devon Park Bioventures., a UK-based platform that lets customers sponsor independent winemakers in exchange for discounts, has raised $10 million in third-round funding from Germany’s WIV Wein International

NoRedInk, a developer of online grammar courses and tracking solutions, has raised $2 million in VC funding. Backers include Charles River Ventures, Google Ventures, Learn Capital and Social+Capital Partnership.

SugarCRM, a Cupertino, Calif.-based provider of customer relationship management solutions, has raised $40 million in equity funding from Goldman Sachs. Piper Jaffray & Co. served as placement agent. The company previously raised over $78 million in equity and debt financing from New Enterprise Associates, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Walden International, Silicon Valley Bank and Gold Hill Capital.

Taggo, a Singapore-based marketing platform that turns merchant Facebook pages into loyalty clubs, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series A funding from Jungle Ventures and Spring Seed

TagMan, a New York City-based provider of tag management and marketing data solutuions, manages online data, has raised $5 million in third-round funding. Return backers were Greycroft Partners andiNovia Capital were joined by Silicon Valley Bank.

TissueTech Inc., a Doral, Fla.-based regenerative tissue engineering company, has raised $10 million in VC funding from Ballast Point Ventures and River Cities Capital

TrendKite, an Austin, Texas-based developer of predictive analytics for media mentions, has raised $1.2 million in Series A funding. Silverton Partners led the round, and was joined by DreamIt Ventures and individual angels.
