CB insights FundingFlash reported $6.9 billion investedin 841 deals for 1q2013.  They reported 47 deals alone on 4/5/2013 with 242.7 million in funding and 56 deals where reported closed on 4/4/2013 with 312.8 million in funding.  Here a few deals that closed recently:

  • Clean Power Finance, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based provider of services and financing solutions for the solar industry, has raised $37 million in new VC funding. Edison International and Hennessey Capital were joined by return backers Claremont Creek Ventures, Google Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.www.cleanpowerfinance.com

  • Med Opportunity Partners has agreed to acquire Pfanstiehl Laboratories, a provider of specialized products and services for niche pharma and biotech applications, from Ferro Corp. (NYSE: FOE) for up to $24.9 million, including a $16.9 million cash payment. www.medopportunity.com
  • Sequential Brands Group (OTC BB: SQBG) has acquired the IP company that owns consumer lifestyle brands Ellen Tracy and Caribbean Joe. The deal is valued at around $82 million, including $62.3 million in cash and around 2.8 million shares of Sequential common stock.   • Fanzy, a marketing app company, raised $550,000 in seed funding from Kima Ventures, Paolo Rubatto’s Start Capital, and OREFA.
  • GreenLancer, a web-based solar energy engineering company, secured more than $275,000 in private funding from a syndicate of Michigan-based investors.
  • Joyride, maker of voice-activated mobile apps, raised $1 million in seed funding from Freestyle Capital, Cowboy Venture Fund, and angel investor Seth Goldstein.
  • Rev.com, a freelance marketplace, raised $4.5 million in Series A financing led by Globespan Capital, with participation from Craig Sherman and Austin Ligon.

  • Equistone Partners Europe (www.equistonepe.com ) has acquired a majority stake in Bretèche Industrie Group, a France-based provider of manufacturing and production equipment for the agro-food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.   • Heart to Heart Hospice, ( www.hearttohearthospice.com )  a Plano, Texas-based provider of hospice care, has secured a minority equity investment from Summit Partners.
  • Hostess Brands (www.hostess.com ) formally announced that it would sell its snack cake business, including Twinkies, toApollo Global Management and C. Dean Metropoulos. The two firms had previously been named “stalking horse” bidders, and Hostess says it did not receive any subsequent offers. 
  • Source Refrigeration & HVAC (www.sourcerefrigeration.com ) a portfolio company of Arsenal Capital Partners, has acquired TP Electrical, a White, Ga.-based provider of electrical and EMS contracting to commercial clients in the Southeastern United States. 
  • Thomsons Online Benefits Ltd. ( www.vss.com ) a provider of SaaS-based benefit and pension administration, workflow and reporting solutions, has raised an undisclosed amount of private equity funding from Veronis Suhler Stevenson.
  • TPG Capital ( www.tpg.com )has won the auction for Australian poultry producer Inghams Enterprises at an enterprise value reported to be between A$900 million and $1 billion. TPG beats out The Blackstone Group, in a process managed by Investec Bank. www.inghams.com.au

  • W.H. Smith Co.
